Ballybunion - An Ideal Golf Base
Ballybunion's Famous 18th Green While Ballybunion has two very special golf courses, together Kerry and Clare - two counties that are side by side - are home to several famous courses. Some of the most famous include Waterville, Dingle, Tralee and Killarney in Co. Kerry and Lahinch and Doonbeg in Co. Clare. All courses are less than 90 minutes away. The Tarbert Car Ferry is less than a 30 minute drive from Ballybunion and takes you to or from Co. Clare, across the Shannon Estuary.

Ballybunion Beach In addition to all that the town has to offer, Ballybunion's hinterland of North Kerry provides an interesting blend of historical sights and other visitor attractions which are within easy reach of the town. Just 5 miles (8 kms) away, Rattoo Round Tower dates from early Christian times. Rising to a height of 92 feet, it was used as a lookout tower during the Norse raids on the area. The 13th century Cathedral at Ardfert is located 15 miles (24 kms) from Ballybunion. This cathedral also marks the site of the first church of the famous St. Brendan the Navigator.

The market town of Listowel is just nine miles from Ballybunion. Noted as a literary town famous for authors such as John B. Keane and the late Bryan McMahon, Listowel has an annual Writers' Week which attracts budding authors from all over the world and a major Literary and Cultural Centre - Seanchaí - has recently opened.

20 miles (32 kms) away, Tralee, the capital town of North Kerry, is famous for its International Rose Festival and has developed a number of popular visitor attractions such as Kerry County Museum, the Geraldine Experience, The Aqua Dome, Blennerville Windmill and a restored steam train. At Ballydonoghue, 5 miles (8 kms) from Ballybunion, a memorial stands to the local writer, Maurice Walsh, author of 'The Quiet Man'.

Ballybunion is very easily reached and below are some travel distances. The nearest access points are Kerry Airport, Cork Air and Ferryport and Shannon International Airport. For North American golfers, Shannon is just 67 miles (108 kms) away and Shannon has daily direct services from several major cities.
